The Duke of Cambridge gives a strong speech about the illegal wildlife trade

The Duke of Cambridge gave a strong speech outlining the shipping industry’s role in arresting the illegal wildlife trade at the UK Chamber of Shipping Annual Dinner.

Prince William, who founded United for Wildlife, has long campaigned for the illegal wildlife trade to be stopped, and he used his keynote speech at the annual gala to remind shipping companies of their key role.

The Prince connected the trade to drugs, terrorism and arms trafficking, and he pointed in particular to China’s ban on ivory as an example of leadership.

In a stark warning, the Duke of Cambridge pointed to the industry as a key player saying that shipping companies were “at the heart of the problem” and that companies could commit to solving the issue by joining the Transportation Task Force.

The charity support all efforts to support preventing illegal wildlife trade in UK ports and believe that the European Union should also ensure it is illegal to move whale meat through European ports, helping to protect cetaceans from falling victim to whaling.
