ORCA delivering training course for Natural England

27th Feb 2017

ORCA is partnering with MARINElife this week to deliver a training programme to Natural England, one of the UK's most important agencies for environmental protection

Based in York, the course demonstrates the impact ORCA's work is having at the highest level, and is a critical step in ensuring a cohesive, multi-level approach to protecting our marine environment.

As well as a comprehensive programme to educate the 30 attendees about at sea marine mammal surveying and species identification, the programme will also include discussions about the importance of collaborative working.

Of particular interest will be the discussion about the importance of standardising data collection protocols to ensure the data can contribute both to the wider tracking of trends and have a quantifiable impact on the fight to protect cetaceans.

The programme is based on ORCA's ever-popular Marine Mammal Surveyor training course and is the latest in a long list of bespoke programmes the charity has been asked to deliver.
