Our Supporter Development Manager Catherine Bowley has her running shoes on again this month to help fund a local team of volunteers to clean up the local beaches.

The busy Solent is on the doorstep of ORCA HQ here in Portsmouth and as well as being home to the navy, it is a busy fishing channel both offshore and onshore.

As a result of the strong tides, a lot of disgarded or lost fishing gear is regularly washed up on beaches in and around Portsmouth.  This is a huge hazard for all marine wildlife as thousands of animals a year are killed or injured by becoming entangled in lost nets, or line.  not only that but it spoils beautiful beach habitats and causes hazards to people using the beaches.

On March 28th, Catherine will be running in a local 5km night run along Southsea seafront raising money to equip a team of local volunteers with beach clean kits so they can regularly patrol the beaches in the area, making them safe and tidy for everyone to enjoy.  If you would like to support this cause, visit Catherine's JustGiving page:
