Whale Education Month

Whale Education Month: Giants of the Ocean

ORCA are inviting schools from all around the UK to take part in the first ever Whale Education Month!

The topic for this year's Whale Education Month is Giants of the Ocean.  Whale Education Month is taking place between the 1st – 31st October 2017, to coincide with World Animal Day on the 4th October!

We are sending out free lesson packs to schools and teachers about the largest, most intelligent and fascinating animals on the planet - whales, dolphins and porpoises!  The activities link in with the curriculum and provide students extra support in the topics of science, maths and English.

Teachers will be provided with a free lesson pack, which will give three different hour-long lessons for children in KS2.

  • Lesson 1: Whales – an interactive presentation provided about the largest animals on our planet, plus games and activities to help with children’s knowledge of the topic
  • Lesson 2: Dolphins – an interactive presentation provided about intelligent dolphins, plus games and activities to help with children’s knowledge of the topic
  • Lesson 3: Porpoises – an interactive presentation provided about the often overlooked marine mammals, plus games and activities to help with children’s knowledge of the topic

We are hoping that hundreds of schools and thousands of students will be taking part, and this will become an annual event with different topics each year.  Although we are encouraging schools to deliver the materials in October, teachers can use the materials anytime to inspire students about wonderful whales and dolphins.
